Awesome Gifts

Can you believe tomorrow is the first day of December? My dad reminds me every chance he gets that time goes by quick and I can't agree with him even more now that I am married and living out here with my husband in Watsonville. It seems like time goes by even more quickly because I always anxiously waiting and looking forward to the times I am with family.

The first day of December just means we are 24 days away from Christmas! When thinking about what gifts to get for my family I always think about what I would love and enjoy receiving. Here are some gift ideas that would be great for this upcoming Christmas.

books, stacked

I've been inspired about stacked books and magazines lately and love that it looks effortless yet modern. Perhaps this would be a great decor idea for our guestroom...

or even start collecting old records...

Welcome Back

This past holiday break was amazing. We spent the first half with family and friends then spent the last half in Vegas with my siblings. By the end of the trip we couldn't believe how fast the week went! There are so many great buys I had this past week at the thrift stores in my hometown and can't wait to share with you all (coming soon in another post). As for my etsy store Micah Olivet, there will be a slight delay, it will hopefully be back up by the end of this week, fingers crossed! I will leave you with a few images of what I enjoyed this past holiday week.

We are heading down to SoCal today to stay with family for about a week to celebrate Thanksgiving. I made a schedule so each day will be packed with things to do. I will be making just a few posts during our visit there, so don't worry! My etsy store Micah Olivet will be closed as of today until 11-27, don't forget to check back, I will have some new things up. Oh yes, and happy friday.

Simple, Natural, Organic, Life.

I love this interview with Gisèle d’Ailly van Waterschoot van der Gracht. Not only is her life story like a written novel but her home is like a packed museum filled with old and new. I especially love the aesthetically dried out plants scattered throughout the home. Here are just a few of the many photos, enjoy.

Little Black Casual Maxi Dress

With the weather getting a lot cooler these days, there are many things going through my mind, especially Christmas songs and my wardrobe. I love fall/winter clothes and now-a-days, I find even more joy putting outfits together. One plus for spending holidays at home with close friends and family is comfort. And who doesn't love comfort in their clothes? Here are some I found that have the qualities I am looking for (also affordable!) in my holiday maxi dress: 1)black, classic and timeless color that never goes out 2)casual, because you can always dress up casual with shiney accessories 3)comfort, (especially during holiday dinners) you don't want your clothes to be the cause of you wanting the night to end when you should be enjoying your time with family and friends 4)can be worn again, enough said.

Our Home, Our Walls

We are a bit far from owning our home just yet, but I can't wait for the day we do. One thing I look forward to most when we finally own a home are the walls. I believe that walls can say a lot and at times be the main decor of the room. Growing up in my parents home, each room had (and still has) different yet similar wall paper throughout the house. But my favorite wall paper is in the dining room. It's a vintage orange/yellow floral design wall paper that reminds me a lot of the 60's. I searched for the same wall paper but had no luck finding it however, I did find many that I liked. Here are just some of the many I liked along with an inspiration from the 60's.

Inspirational Monday: Blogger Jessie Weiss

Inspirational Monday is back! I was really inspired after watching this mini interview/documentary on Jessie Weiss who started off as a blogger. I found her fashion advice on using unique accessories and choice of simplicity in her clothing to inspire me to invest in these areas as well. She also has a new online magazine type website on the latest fashion and beauty, journelles, enjoy.

Would you Thrift a Gift?

I ventured out today and made several trips to some thrift/vintage stores in the lovely city of Santa Cruz. I love walking around the residential neighborhoods admiring the cute houses and because it's now fall, the homes look even more admirable. Enough of side tracking. As I browsed throughout the stores the thought of gifting a thrift bought item came into mind. Would I ever gift an item I purchased at a thrift/vintage store? Would you ever gift a thrifted item? I personally love thrift/vintage/antique shopping and would not mind if I received a gift that was thrifted, as long as there is meaning and thought into it. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that I would thrift a gift only for someone who is very close to me and only if it was something that I know for certain that the individual would love. With that said, here are a couple things I snagged on my trip, enjoy.

love this cup. reminds me of drinking coffee for breakfast at a diner.

set of wooden Setwell bottom hangers.

remember playing pick up sticks in elementary that were about the size of a chopstick? well this is the giant size. my husband and I played one round last night and it got pretty competitive, can't imagine/wait to see what it would be like to play with our friends/family!

Belts

I purchased a leather belt a couple weeks ago and after being worn only 5 times to my surprise it was coming apart. I love shopping for belts but I only own a few because of the fear of them coming apart and regretting the purchase. That's why now I have decided that I really need to be picky and smart about my future buys on belts. Here are a few that I think would be sturdy, long lasting, and timeless.
